Arsenal are currently in the race to sign PSG forward Kylian Mbappe and the Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta has given his opinion on a potential move in the summer. He has said that his club must ‘be in the conversation’ to sign the Frenchman.
The North London club are monitoring the progress of the 25-year-old who has clearly told PSG that he will leave the club at the end of the season. He is not willing to extend his contract.
The Frenchman will leave PSG as a free agent in June and big European clubs will now look to sign him. Real Madrid are the frontrunners to sign Mbappe but Arsenal may spoil their party.
There were some reports that Mbappe might even plan to make a move to the Premier League. SArsenal are also looking for a quality striker and Mbappe might solve their issues.
Mikel Arteta has said that Arsenal must always be in the picture for players “of that calibre”, but he suggested that the forward is heading for Real Madrid.
Arteta spoke to reporters during his press conference ahead of the Burnley clash, “When there is a player of that calibre, we always have to be in that conversation. But it looks in a different way, that’s what I would say.”
Mbappe was on the radar of Real Madrid and Los Blancos wanted to sign him in 2022. However, the Frenchman signed a contract extension until 2024.
The 25-year-old may receive a 60/40 split in his favour in terms of image rights, which would further increase the attacker’s earning power at Real Madrid. Arsenal may shift their focus on Ivan Toney in the summer.
