Arteta will miss key players for this clash due to injury in international break.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaks on the injury of their key players ahead of North London derby clash against Tottenham. The Gunners will miss a couple of players in the crucial clash this weekend.
Martin Odegaard will be the first player who will be sidelined for the clash. The Arsenal skipper faced an ankle injury during the international break. He was seen on crutches in the Nations League encounter as he boarded a flight back to the UK.
Odegaard could take around three weeks to recover from his sprain. He will also miss out Champions League clash against Atalanta and the Premier League game against Manchester City.
Asked whether Odegaard could be involved against Tottenham, Arteta replied: “We need some more tests so let’s see what happens in the next day or so, this afternoon probably, and see what happens with the extent of the injury and how quickly we can get him back.
“He is super positive about everything, we know Martin, he wants to be there every single day, but we have to wait and see. With 48 hours until the game, players could always become available, but let’s see what happens.”
Gabriel Jesus was back in training and is on course to be fit for Sunday’s game. Arteta said, “Gabby was out [training]. He has got another session tomorrow. If everything goes well he will be ready to be selected in the squad, which is great news for us,” Arteta replied.
Riccardo Calafiori also sustained an injury during Italy duty and Arteta talked about him as well, “It’s another one that we have to wait for another day or so.”
Mikel Merino (shoulder), Takehiro Tomiyasu (knee) and Kieran Tierney (hamstring) will also not take part in Tottenham trip. Declan Rice will serve the suspension so Arsenal will have a tough task this time.
