Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has signalled that 15‑year‑old academy star Max Dowman could play a meaningful role in the upcoming Premier League season.

Pre‑Season Star Dowman Could Earn Spot—Arteta Says

After yet another eye-catching performance in pre‑season, Arteta stated that Dowman “deserves to have chances” if he continues his form consistently.

Dowman impressed again in Arsenal’s 3‑2 friendly defeat to Villarreal at the Emirates.

Coming on as a substitute, he danced past defenders to win a late penalty, which was calmly converted by Martin Odegaard. His movement, decision‑making and energy earned Arteta’s high praise.

“He continues to impress, without a doubt. The impact he had in the game again today, the efficiency that he shows in every attack and action — it’s incredible.

He deserves to have chances, and if he continues like this, let’s see what happens,” said Arteta.

Dowman’s progress resembles that of fellow Hale End graduate Ethan Nwaneri, though Arteta believes Dowman is already operating at a higher pace.

“Even last year when he was training with us … now he’s doing it in the game consistently.

In the three or four games he’s played, he’s managed to impact and have big moments,” the manager added.

Arteta also revealed that Dowman will be given a short rest before final preparations ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Manchester United on August 17.

“He needs a little break because he hasn’t had any holidays really … then he’ll probably be ready again to go,” he said.

With senior players visibly entrusting him in matches, Dowman appears to be earning genuine trust inside the first‑team setup.

If he maintains this level of performance, Arsenal may well promote his Premier League debut sooner than expected.
