Mikel Arteta Hopes To See Aubameyang Perform At His Best Again

Mikel Arteta has cleared the air with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following last week’s snub.

The Arsenal skipper saw his name omitted from the starting line up against Tottenham for showing up late to the game.

Arsenal did win 2-1 with Alexandre Lacazette leading the line but it was a brave decision from Arteta to leave out his best goalscorer. Aubameyang clearly looked unhappy, sitting on the bleachers while his team secured the win over their bitter rivals.

Asked if the weekend impacted Aubameyang, Arteta replied, “I hope it hasn’t. We moved on from that. He started the game today. We expect him when he does play that he performs at the level he can do.”

Aubameyang might have earned his place back at Arsenal but his performance on Thursday hardly justified it. The 31-year-old missed two key chances to put Arsenal ahead and kill off the tie against Olympiacos. Instead, the Gunners saw out the second leg to a nervy end, eventually going through on 3-2 aggregate.

Many fans voiced their frustrations with Aubameyang. He has not exactly been enjoying his best season in England, failing to hit his marvelous scoring numbers from previous campaigns. Fans are frustrated with the club captain but hope to see him turn things around soon.
