Mikel Arteta lacks the experience to turn around Arsenal’s fortunes, according to former Gunners forward, Nwankwo Kanu.
Arteta is set to be announced as the Arsenal head coach before their game on Saturday against Everton.
The Spaniard’s first point of attention will be to get the club back to winning ways. They are currently 10th in the Premier League table, seven points behind the fourth spot. Rivals, Tottenham Hotspur have relaunched their top four race under their new boss, Jose Mourinho and Arsenal are expected to the same under Arteta.
However, the 37-year-old has no real management experience whereas Mourinho is a proven winner with multiple trophies under his belt. Arteta has only worked as an supporting coach for Pep Guardiola in the past three-and-a-half-years.
“I know every fan is disappointed with the games the club have been playing of late,” Kanu told the News Agency of Nigeria. “This is not the same Arsenal people used to know. But, all the same, we can still turn it around.
“It is clear that Arsenal are not where they are supposed to be, they have to change a lot of things and ensure that they return to the basics.”
Many Arsenal fans are against the appointment of a newbie and were rooting to sign Carlo Ancelotti instead. Unfortunately, Everton have won the Italian’s hand and could soon appoint him as Marco Silva’s replacement.
Kanu added, “We need a strong hand to bring back the glorious days of Arsenal.”
