Mikel Arteta Needs £100m-£150m To Spend Immediately

Mikel Arteta needs to spend money in transfers and nobody supports that statement more than former Gunner, Perry Groves.

The Arsenal boss has already expressed the need to bring in fresh faces to start bridging the gap to the top.

Currently sitting in ninth of the Premier League, Arsenal are a considerable distance from the top sides in terms of competitiveness. The game against Liverpool was evident of that after what has been a horrific season. Even though the Gunners collected a win, it was through “survival football”, according to Groves.

“Arsenal need money spent in different areas, especially at centre-half and in central midfield,” Groves told Talksport. “I can see what Arteta is trying to do, I can see there’s a plan, but at the moment he’s dealing with six, seven, eight players he knows he doesn’t really want, but, he’s got to keep using them and be cute.

“We’ve got a lot of young players coming in, which is good, but watching the game against Liverpool it was survival football, let’s be honest. There is a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel, but the finances, that squad probably needs £100m or £150m spent on it.”

Not many would disagree with Groves’ sentiments. Arsenal are in dire need of quality in several places especially according to Arteta’s preferences. While the Spaniard has given this team a direction, moving forward will need to be an unified approach from the board and the players.
