Mikel Arteta reveals his points target for the season

Mikel Arteta predicts how many points Arsenal need to win the Premier League title.

The Gunners are currently five points clear at the top of the table with their dramatic 4-3 win over Luton Town last night.

So far, Arsenal have racked up 33 points in their first 14 games although they are four fewer than at this stage last season.

They came close to winning the title last season but fumbled in their last seven league games, winning only two and handing the opportunity to Manchester City to crown the Premier League trophy.

But Mikel Arteta will have his sights on winning the club’s first domestic title in 20 years.

The Spaniard believes the club needs to reach triple figures in order to win the Premier League title.

Winning all the remaining 24 games would see Arsenal finish the campaign with 105 points and win their first league title since 2003.

Arteta said: “Do I have a target? Yes. 96-100 I think you win the league. That is the cushion.”

Man City have drawn their last three games and dropped to third in the Premier League table.

“Do I take encouragement from that? No,” Arteta stated.

“The encouragement comes from watching the team play, watching them behave every day and how hungry and willing they are to approach every training session. That’s what gives me encouragement. What the others do is something that we cannot control.”
