Arsenal are reportedly very close to securing Mikel Arteta as their next permanent manager.

It has been a disaster first half of the 2019/20 season but the Gunners are hoping their new head could steer them towards the right direction.

Freddie Ljungberg has already urged the board and Arsenal chiefs to make a managerial appointment soon. Reports claim the North London has gone through various candidates but Arteta is their most popular choice.

The Spaniard played for five seasons at Arsenal before hanging up his boots and becoming a coach. He immediately got promoted to a coaching position by Pep Guardiola in the Manchester City senior side. After spending, over three years by Pep’s side, it seems like the 37-year-old is ready to take on his own club.

Arsenal are in a torrid state right now but not one that is beyond repair. They still have world-class players in their ranks and are open to making new signings. Arteta is still due to meet with Arsenal chief, Josh Kroenke before being offered the job.

If the former Gunners midfielder does take over this week, his first game in charge would be against Everton, a club he was associated to prior to Arsenal. Ljungberg has only managed to win one game out of the five he managed, losing 3-0 against Manchester City last.
