The 21-year old made 16 appearances for the Gunners earlier in the season but made a move to St James’ Park in the winter to find more game time.
He made a remarkable impression on Steve Bruce’s men with the midfielder netting four goals in 10 Premier League matches for the Magpies.
Former Man United defend Rio Ferdinand is a huge admirer of Willock and questioned the club’s decision to let him leave on loan in January.
“You know what, I like Joe Willock,” Ferdinand told FIVE.
“He’s someone at Arsenal that I would have kept. He’s a good young player. If Arsenal don’t take him back and have him around that squad… I don’t know, man.
“I really like him and I like his personality. He’s not shy to come on the big stage and play and perform.
“And the last three goals he’s scored have been massive goals for Newcastle. It shows he’s got the temperament.”
He said: “We would love to keep him here. He is the type of player you’d love to build your club around.
“Whether we can or not I’m not quite sure.”
