Mikel Arteta Wants To Wait Before Engaging In Contract Talks For Elneny

Mikel Arteta has decided to wait before engaging in contract talks with Mohamed Elneny.

The Egyptian has been in sublime form since returning to the club last summer. He has started seven of the eleven games played so far by Arsenal.

Almost no one had thought of Elneny breaking into the Gunners midfield after spending the past two seasons mostly neglected by managers. His rise has been meteoric and many have been won over by his dedication, quality and resilience on the pitch.

Elneny still has two years left on his Arsenal contract but questions need to be asked about an extension. He is 28 years old and one of the lowest earning members of the squad.

Arteta said, “Let’s go step by step please! What I can say is that I’m really pleased with the player and hopefully he can continue like that and perform all season. I think he’s responding really well to all the challenges we’re putting in front of him.

“He had a big one when he came back from his loan spell to show what he can bring to the squad. I think everybody’s seen what he can do. I’m really pleased with his performances and what he can bring to the team.”
