Mikel Arteta has issued a clear instruction to his Arsenal squad, telling them to ignore the emotional noise of the Premier League title race and concentrate only on performances they can control.
The Gunners currently sit at the top of the table, aiming to finally secure the championship after finishing as runners-up for three seasons in a row.
Speaking in a press conference, Arteta pointed to the recent match against Newcastle United as a perfect example of why his team must not get swept up in weekly dramas.
He recalled how some people suggested that a loss at Newcastle would have ended Arsenal’s title hopes. Just one week later, the situation looked completely different, with the team back on top.
“We cannot pay too much attention to that,” Arteta stated.
“Honestly, let’s focus on what you can control, focus on our performance … and achieving what we want to achieve.”
With 30 games still to play, the manager stressed that many twists and turns will happen between now and the end of the season.
He believes maintaining emotional stability is vital for success. “Emotionally we cannot be dragged into these things because we have much more important things to do,” he said.
The challenge for Arsenal remains immense. They must outlast a strong Liverpool team and a formidable Manchester City side over the long campaign.
However, the club strengthened its squad significantly during the summer, bringing in several key players.
This improved depth has already shown its value, as Arsenal managed to secure their place at the top despite a difficult opening run of fixtures that included tough away matches at Manchester United, Liverpool, and Newcastle, plus a major clash with City at home.
