At the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night, Arsenal defeated Crystal Palace, but Mikel Arteta, the manager of the Gunners, was apparently unhappy with one of his players. In the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup, the Gunners defeated Premier League rivals Palace 3-2 at home. As the former Manchester City player scored a hat-trick, Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus stole the show. Arsenal’s Raheem Sterling also played in the game. The winger was on loan from Chelsea, and manager Mikel Arteta started him but substituted him in the 70th minute.
Football.London claims that Arteta was not pleased with Sterling during the match. The manager of Arsenal reportedly spent a large portion of the first half “shouting toward Sterling to get into certain positions.” At one point during the second half, up to five Arsenal players yelled at Sterling, telling him “To come closer to his teammates to narrow the spaces,” according to Football.London. “Gabriel Jesus in particular was observed attempting to communicate with the winger,” the article continues.
Raheem Sterling’s performance is worrying for his future
Following his summer 2024 loan move from London and Premier League rival Chelsea to Arsenal, Sterling has not performed well. When he has played, as he did against Palace, the 30-year-old winger, a former player for Manchester City and Liverpool, has not made a significant impression and has not established himself in the Arsenal starting lineup.
Only two Premier League starts have been made by the winger for Arsenal so far this season. He has also made four appearances in the competition as a substitute. Even though Sterling is an excellent player, the unpleasant reality is that he is currently a member of Arsenal’s roster. There won’t be any change in the near future. Sterling, who had the option to sign with West Ham United last summer, lost position off the ball and lacked quality when he had it against Palace in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup quarterfinal match.
