According to multiple reports, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was visibly animated with defender Ben White during his team’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Olympiacos on October 1, 2025.
Arteta Spotted in Heated Exchange With Defender Ben White During Victory
Arteta was seen giving White stern instructions on the touchline, particularly as the defender prepared to take a throw-in near the technical area.
This followed a moment where White was brushed aside by an Olympiacos forward, and much of the Greek side’s attacking play was funneled down his right flank.
The match itself was a successful one for Arsenal, with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and substitute Bukayo Saka securing a 2-0 win and a perfect start to their Champions League campaign. However, White’s performance was noted as difficult.
He was substituted in the 57th minute for Jurrien Timber, a change that was seen as an indication of Arteta’s dissatisfaction with how the game was unfolding on that side of the pitch.
This was only White’s third start of the season, having recently lost his place in the starting lineup to Timber.
During the game, Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya was also forced to make a stunning save to deny Daniel Podence, who had gotten in front of White to connect with a cross.
Despite this incident, it’s important to note that Ben White is considered a key player for Arsenal. The club secured his long-term future just months ago when he signed a new contract until 2028.
Manager Mikel Arteta has publicly praised him as a “top professional with a winning mentality” and “one of the guys who leads by example”.
While a single touchline exchange does not define a player’s career, it highlights the intense competition for places at Arsenal and the high standards demanded by the manager.
