Arsenal have been graced by a lot of top players over the years but not all of them have turned out to be the bonafide star they were thought to be before signing. Some of the hype surrounding these players died down when they failed to meet expectations on the pitch.

5. Jack Wilshere is one of the most overrated Arsenal players
It pains me to add Wilshere to this list, especially when he is one of my favourite Gunners players ever but sadly he has become overrated over the years. The man’s talents are undeniably good ever since he broke into the Arsenal first team under Arsene Wenger as an 18-year-old. He almost had every tool to become a top player and the word of his footballing abilities spread like wildfire.
Unfortunately for Wilshere, his body was just never built for the run and tear of Premier League football as he got constantly pulled into spells on the sidelines. His injury became his worst nightmare as Arsenal fans kept hoping for him to come back and fulfil his potential of becoming a top player.
Wilshere could never break out of the fitness curse even when he was making a run for the final 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. After a decade with Arsenal, the midfielder finally left the Gunners to suit up for West Ham in 2018 and pretty soon fell out of their starting lineup as well. Watch & Bet Football Here =>
4. Granit Xhaka is one of the most overrated Arsenal players
Xhaka was brought in by Wenger in 2016 to become a midfield enforcer. The Frenchman agreed to pay £35m for the Swiss captain but after 3 seasons almost everyone can tell that the player was possibly overrated.
Xhaka gained the reputation of being a hard tackler but with a sharp passing ability. He came into the Premier League with the same traits but he has hardly developed from the player that he was at 23.
The game still seems to pass by him exposing his weaknesses in both creating and defending. Xhaka is also erratic on the pitch, lunging into needless challenges and then entering the referee’s book. To a few Gunners fans, he is still seen as a future Andrea Pirlo but it would a disgrace to compare Xhaka to the Italian passing master. Watch & Bet Football Here =>
3. Denilson is one of the most overrated Arsenal players
Denilson made over 150 appearances for Arsenal but the Brazilian midfielder could never meet his lofty expectations. Many believed that he was destined for greatness but was proven otherwise after 7 seasons at the Emirates.
He was brought in from Sao Paulo in 2006 for £3.4m. At the time, that was a hefty fee for a teenager but the South American showed a lot of potential as the captain of the U17 Brazil team.
Unfortunately, he faded out of the limelight, unable to cope with the physicality of the Premier League or the intelligence to break into the starting squad. His final seasons at North London were spent out on loan before he eventually decided to cancel his contract. Watch & Bet Football Here =>
2. Nicklas Bendtner is the second most overrated Arsenal player
A player who singlehandedly produced millions of football-related memes is definitely one of the most overrated players in world football. Nicklas Bendtner only ever scored 47 goals for Arsenal in 171 appearances but somehow everyone seems to know the striker even to this day.
The Dane has returned home to play for Rosenborg after spending 8 years with Arsenal, 2 with VfL Wolfsburg and 1 with Nottingham Forest. Back in the day, Bendtner was set out to take over Europe when he was still coming out of the Gunners youth ranks.
He was even famously quoted to have said, “If you ask me if I am one of the best strikers in the world, I say yes because I believe it. When I see that other strikers score a lot of goals, I realise I need to score those goals.
“But I think everything else in my game is right. Even if I believe I can still improve. But the goals are the last thing I need to add and when I do I believe I will be the player I want to be. One of the best.”

1. Rob Holding is the most overrated Arsenal player
Arsenal fans have been left less than impressed with Rob Holding’s performance on his return from injury. Holding started in the heart of Arsenal’s defence, but struggled at times, as Leeds United caused the Premier League side problems.
Many people were perplexed when Arsene Wenger bought Rob Holding for £2.70 million from Bolton Wanderers in 2016. After containing, intimidating, and dominating Diego Costa in Arsenal’s impressive FA cup win over Chelsea, the Frenchman gradually introduced him into the side, giving him time and experience at the highest level of English football. By 2017, Holding looked on track for a regular slot in central defence.
Like many others, I saw the defender as a rising natural leader, a key figure at the back, and a potential leadership contender. Rob Holding has, unfortunately, gone backwards.
