Former Arsenal defender Danny Mills has said that Jose Mourinho would join the Gunners if and only if they agree to back him in the transfer market.
Unai Emery has come under the spotlight of criticism following Arsenal’s 2-2 shock draw against Watford. The fand and pundits together want the Special One to be appointed as the manager in place of thr Spaniard.
“Under Arsene Wenger it was always ‘they just keep doing the same thing, they keep playing the same way, they don’t sort out the defensive midfield, they don’t sort out the defence and it doesn’t get any better’,” Mills said.
“One thing you have to say about Mourinho [is] he always found different ways to winning and he would adapt to the opposition.”
“Mourinho I still think is one of the best. I’m not so sure that he would [take the Arsenal job].”
“He’d need plenty of money, he’d need plenty of money to sort that defence out, that would be the biggest problem.”
“But he was adaptable, Sir Alex Ferguson was always adaptable, would change formation in European games.
“To compete at the very, very top, you have to do that.
”
“Unless you are so ahead of everybody else, so much better, you have to adapt to the opposition.”
“Even Manchester City did that, that first season where Pep [Guardiola] realised ‘oh, that didn’t quite work’. You’ve got to find a balance.”
