According to Sky Sports, Napoli is trying to hijack Gabriel’s move to Arsenal.
If previous reports are anything to believe, the Brazilian has been offered terms by both clubs and Arsenal stand a strong chance of landing him.
Gabriel is yet to make a final decision as his agent tries to get the best deal for his client. Overall, Arsenal are in the driving seat with their proposal. Napoli’s only play here is to offer him a bigger salary and try to lure him away from the glamour of playing at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta badly wants to sign him in an attempt to revamp his defensive figures ahead of the 2020/21 season.
The Spanish boss came in during a tumultuous period and had an immediate effect on the club. One of his greatest contributions was improving the backline performance. Unfortunately, he could only get so much out of the current crop of players. That means, bringing in fresh blood with the likes of William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and even Pablo Mari featuring more heavily in the upcoming campaign, provided the Brazilian signs.
He certainly won’t have a problem fitting in with compatriots, David Luiz, Willian and Gabriel Martinelli already in the Gunners squad. Hopefully, Napoli’s late move does not prove to be the deciding factor for him.
