According to The Northern Echo, Moussa Diaby, who was one of Newcastle United’s top targets last summer and is still a target for them this summer, is in line for a possible club-record summer transfer. That would entail spending more money than the £63 million Newcastle paid for Alexander Isak, but they appear ready to do so.
Earlier this month, Christian Falk claimed that Arsenal were still interested in Diaby and that the player’s representatives were in touch with the Gunners. Diaby, according to Bild, is considering departing Bayer Leverkusen in the summer and has been offered to Arsenal for a possible transfer in the near future.
After their agreement to acquire Mykhaylo Mudryk fell through, Arsenal became very interested in Diaby, according to Patrick Berger of the German publication SPORT1. Leverkusen refused to sell him in January despite early negotiations between the Bundesliga club and the Gunners.
Newcastle has long admired Diaby, but in the past they felt that Leverkusen was being unreasonable in their requests. Although the winger has a deal that runs through 2025, his cost to sign this year is still anticipated to be high.
Diaby has 47 goals and 44 assists in 159 games for Bayer Leverkusen altogether. This season, he has 12 goals and 7 assists. The 23-year-old can play on either wing and is a France international.
