According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United is looking to sign a left-back on a temporary loan deal this summer. They have their eye on both Kieran Tierney of Arsenal and Marc Cucurella of Chelsea. Newcastle only wants to sign one of the two players, despite the fact that both are apparently eager to transfer. The Magpies are currently trying to move the negotiations along.
According to reports, Tierney is a target for Arsenal, but they would rather sell him than loan him out.
A loan with a purchase commitment, which would essentially postpone the fee for another year, would be a workable compromise. Arsenal will continue looking for an immediate buyer for the time being. That makes it possible for Newcastle to work out a deal with Chelsea for Cucurella in the interim, although that move is also complicated.
Chelsea would want to sell its left-back, much like Arsenal would, and Newcastle intends to offer a loan with a modest upfront payment and either an option or an obligation to buy. Therefore, it appears that a prospective deal may drag out until the conclusion of the window until either Arsenal or Chelsea capitulate and give Newcastle what they want.
On Saturday, Arsenal played Nottingham Forest, and one of the major talking topics leading up to the game was Tierney’s exclusion from the roster. Several journalists stated that Tierney wasn’t hurt; Mikel Arteta had just chosen to leave him off the team. Also interested in loaning Tierney, and discussions with the Spanish club are still ongoing. Arsenal is still waiting on the permanent bids they actually want at this time.
