Reports about Mesut Ozil and two other Arsenal players rejecting a wage cut turns out to be false.
Goal.com earlier claimed that Arsenal players are considering the 12.5% pay cut asked of them by the board. Some news outlets put Mesut Ozil and a few others on blast for refusing to the wage reduction as opposed to the rest of the squad.
The German playmaker has been scapegoated once again, bringing around a hostile response from the fans. It has been revealed that all players are collectively taking some time to evaluate the situation. While the proposed idea has been passed on, they still need to arrive at a decision.
The Independent and ESPN claim that Ozil just wants further assurances about future payments before agreeing to anything. Overall, majority of players have accepted the pay cut after a bit of convincing from Mikel Arteta. They are prepared to do so in these trying times as many other Premier League clubs go through a financial dip. There are only a small number of players who needs to get behind it.
In hindsight, it is not unfair on players to consider the new arrangements. Even though they get paid millions of pounds, it is not like their peers from all other top clubs are facing the same circumstances.
