Newcomers to the Premier League Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who is available after a loan spell with AS Roma last season.
According to the Mirror, Steve Cooper’s newly promoted Forest has made contact with the north London club to ascertain his availability.
Cooper, a former Swansea City manager, is familiar with Maitland-Niles from his time working for the Football Association and coaching England’s youth teams.
The midfielder has represented England at all age levels, from under-17s to adults, and was a member of the under-20s World Cup-winning side in 2017.
Maitland-Niles, who can play both in midfield and at right-back, may be a key acquisition for the newly promoted team as they attempt to escape relegation from the Premier League.
Forest contacted Maitland-Niles this week to inquire about his availability and have made him a summer transfer priority. Forest are looking to bolster their squad for next season’s Premier League campaign, and Maitland-Niles seems a natural fit.
Maitland-Niles, 24, has a year left on his current contract at Arsenal and is eager to obtain regular game time now that it appears the Gunners are ready to trade. From his stint with the Football Association and coaching through the England age levels, Forest manager Steve Cooper is familiar with Maitland-Niles.
