Arsenal have officially let go of Unai Emery after Thursday’s 1-2 defeat at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt.

It was the Gunners’ seventh game without a win which ends Emery’s time at North London.

Josh Kroenke passed an official statement which read – “Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand. We wish Unai and his team nothing but future success.”

Frieddie Ljungberg will be taking charge of the senior side on an interim basis. The Swede has been managing the Arsenal U23s all this time and has the support of the Gunners board to serve well as a caretaker boss.

Arsenal are currently in search of a permanent figure. Some of the biggest names are Massimiliano Allegri, Mauricio Pochettino and Nuno Espirito Santo. Except Santo, the other two are out of work after managing Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

Santo is a popular choice due to his impressive work with Wolves but it will take a lot to sweep him out of his current contract. As for now, Arsenal will be hoping to end their winless streak and get back to challenging for a top four Premier League spot and also the Europa League trophy.
