After weeks of drawing strong links with Arsenal, renowned Sporting Director, Monchi has chosen to return to his former club, Sevilla.
The La Liga outfit’s club president, Jose Castro confirmed the news on Friday about the Spaniard’s appointment.
Plenty of reports had emerged in the past linking Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, Monchi directly with the Gunners mostly due to his past relationship with Unai Emery. The duo worked together at Sevilla for 3 seasons during which 3 Europa League titles were won.
Monchi has been acknowledged by the footballing world for his ability to sign the world’s best prospects. He has reportedly created a network of around 700 scouts in the world and has been recognized for earning Sevilla over £200m through player transfers.
The 50-year-old signed Dani Alves for £150,000 from Esporte Club Bahia and shipped him off to Barcelona for £32m. He did the same with Ivan Rakitic and Seydou Keita, earning nearly £40m from both the players’ sales.
He was also responsible for the discoveries of Jesus Navas, Sergio Ramos, Jose Antonio Reyes, Adriano, Alberto Moreno and plenty of other recognizable faces.
He was touted to succeed Sven Mislintat in the head recruitment post at the Emirates but sadly Arsenal will have to start looking again.
They have already been stiffed by Ajax over the prospects of signing Marc Overmars due to which they might have focused their attention towards the former AS Roma man.
