The Gunners only managed a 0-0 draw against Leeds United while Leicester City had put four past them the week prior.
Arsenal fans were considerably happy with the point after Nicolas Pepe’s red card made sure they were one man down. It was a scrappy affair and definitely not a pretty one. Critics of Arteta found depth in their voice after Arsenal’s visit to Elland Road.
Merson said, “Where are Arsenal going? People say you can see what Arteta is trying to do, but I’m not sure.
“I watched Leeds and you can see what they are doing. Some of their passing and movement, you could tell they have worked on it, but I do not see that with Arsenal.”
Arteta is still less than a year into his job at North London. The Spaniard has guided them to a FA Cup and Community Shield within that period, although the start to 2020/21 has been pretty bleak. Defeats to Leicester and Aston Villa have not helped their domestic standing.
Arsenal’s most obvious problem is going forward. They fail to create chances and this allows teams to put them on the back foot. Arteta understandably will need time to address these problems but it won’t happen if he is constantly questioned on the job.
