Former England and Arsenal star Paul Merson has delivered a fresh verdict on the Premier League title race — backing Chelsea to finish above Manchester City this season, while still insisting Arsenal will “easily” win the Premier League crown.

Merson Backs Chelsea to Outperform Manchester City — But Says Arsenal Are Untouchable

The comments arrive in the wake of Sunday’s dramatic 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea had taken the lead through Trevoh Chalobah’s second-half header — only for Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino to equalize shortly afterwards.

Earlier, Chelsea had been reduced to ten men after Moises Caicedo was sent off just before halftime for a late tackle on Merino.

Despite the red card and numerical disadvantage, Chelsea showed resilience and kept pushing until the final whistle.

Merson said that performance underlines how far the club has come — adding he believes Chelsea have enough quality to finish ahead of Manchester City.

Still, Merson made it clear that when it comes to the title, he sees Arsenal as head and shoulders above all contenders:

“If they can manage their players well, I don’t see anybody touching them,” he said in his column.

He even previewed Arsenal’s next match — a home game against Brentford — predicting a comfortable 3-0 win, underscoring his belief that the Gunners remain on track to win the league.

Merson’s verdict leaves Chelsea in an interesting — if unlikely — position: while second or third place may be realistic, the former midfielder appears to believe their squad lacks the consistency to seriously challenge for the title.

For Arsenal, though, the message is clear: if they stay focused, this could finally be their year.
