Former Manchester United great Paul Scholes has warned that Arsenal have “no chance” of winning the Premier League unless they start delivering in the so-called “big games.”
His stark verdict came in the wake of Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa a result that, in his view, underlines why the Gunners may struggle to end their 22-year title drought.
Arsenal began the season as frontrunners, perched at the top of the table, but their collapse at Villa Park has handed rivals, particularly Manchester City, fresh momentum.
Scholes argued that Arsenal’s lack of experience especially in high-pressure fixtures remains their biggest weakness.
“With the experience they’ve got, and Arsenal haven’t,” he said, adding that his old club Manchester City are “slightly still favourites” for the title.
According to Scholes, success in the title race requires more than good form it demands consistency in crucial matches against direct rivals.
He pointed to Arsenal’s failures to beat top rivals recently as alarming signs. That said, Scholes did not dismiss Arsenal’s campaign altogether.
He acknowledged their admirable season so far, but emphasised that quality and stability do not always translate into trophies unless they deliver when it matters most.
For Arsenal, the message is clear: it’s no longer enough to lead the table. The real test lies ahead, when they must prove their title credentials by winning the games that define champions.
