Some news sources reported that the Gunners had presented Aubameyang with a contract offer to extend his stay beyond 2021.
According to ESPN, no concrete talks have even begun between the two parties as of yet. Aubameyang arrived for £56.7m in 2018 and has been an outstanding contributor to the club’s offence. He has expressed his love for the club when rumours were brewing over his departure in January.
The Gabon international ended up staying through for the remainder of the season but his future remains uncertain. If Arsenal fail to sign him to a new deal, they will be forced to sell him this very summer for whatever price they can get. Otherwise, they can keep him and once again, let a star player leave for free next year.
Aubameyang wants Champions League football and Arsenal look set on missing out once again this term. While the optimism around Mikel Arteta and the organization will be able to keep some of the players around, Aubameyang might look for greener grass elsewhere. Chelsea are closely monitoring his situation in their bid to reinforce the attack.
