Former Arsenal winger and French legend Robert Pires has compared Mesut Ozil to another Arsenal great Dennis Bergkamp.
‘He hasn’t started many games [recently] because he’s been injured with a small back problem,’ Pires told JOE. ‘But now, the most important thing is to see Mesut in the line-up. ‘He’s very clever, he can make good assists and sometimes he can score.
‘For me, he’s like Dennis Bergkamp, he’s a magician, a maestro. ‘Of course, he’s not a warrior, like Dennis… or like me. But in the team, you need everything. And when you have Mesut, he’s important.’
Berkamp is believed to be one of the best Arsenal players ever to play in the Premier League along side the likes of Thierry Henry and one will wonder what the comparison means for Ozil.
Sure, Ozil is a great player with amazing technical skills and quality to change match in moments but Arsenal’s once record signing and highest paid player in the club history by a mile has flopped once too often.
He is now disliked by half the club supporters themselves as Ozil has done the disappearance act of the so called “magician” every time the going gets tough.
