William Saliba was sent off following a VAR check in Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Bournemouth, and the Premier League has revealed why. After pulling down Evanilson, Saliba was originally given a yellow card by referee Rob Jones; however, he escalated it to a red card after VAR prompted him to see the incident again on the pitch side monitor.

By using their social media account for match centers, the Premier League has also provided an explanation for the choice. “The referee gave Saliba a yellow card for a challenge on Evanilson,” they noted. The VAR requested an on-field review after concluding that Saliba had denied an obvious opportunity to score a goal. The referee then escalated the yellow card to a red one.

Declan Rice shows true colors with William Saliba Arsenal red card verdict

Declan Rice was seen yelling at his teammates to be focused and maintain their positions as Bournemouth pushed for a second goal midway through the second half, with 10-man Arsenal trailing by one. Given what had happened, Rice was becoming irritated with some of the carelessness that ensued after Leandro Trossard’s error that resulted in William Saliba’s red card. Not long afterward, his greatest worries materialized.

To stay in the game, we showed a great deal of character and personality with 10 men, Rice continued. A minute later, a routine we are usually so good at has done us in. The major chance belonged to Martinelli. The keeper read it and made a fantastic stop.
