The report suggests Real are ready to pay £70m and also send over James Rodriguez in exchange for the Gabon international.
There is no denying, Aubameyang is a top striker in Europe with his goal tally stretching to 12 goals in 16 games this season. He is a former Ligue 1, Bundesliga and Premier League Golden Boot winner and continues to perform at an elite level. At 30, he is at the prime of his career but his talents but are not being fully utilised at Arsenal.
The Gunners are nowhere close to challenging for silverware and that might be a deal-breaker for Aubameyang at this point of his career. Despite his amazing career records, he has only ever won the Coupe de la Ligue, DFB Pokal and the DFL Supercup.
Going to Real might just be his strongest chance at winning major honours and the striker is aware of that. The question is will Arsenal agree to selling their best player? It is clearly a rebuilding stage the North Londoners are going through and Aubameyang’s exit might discourage a number of top stars like Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe.
But then again, passing up on £70m for a 30-year-old and getting James Rodriguez in return might not be the best idea either! It all could lead to the manager Arsenal appoint as Unai Emery’s permanent replacement. The sooner they do that, the quicker Aubameyang’s situation will get resolved.
