According to news sources in Turkey, Reiss Nelson is a prime target for Besiktas.
The winger has not quite cut it in his first full season with Arsenal. He appeared a lot early on in Mikel Arteta’s reign but very quickly dropped off from regular selection.
Three of his five league starts last campaign came during Arteta’s first games in charge. It became clear that Bukayo Saka and Nicolas Pepe were more worthy choices with Nelson mostly featuring as a backup. The 19-year-old did make an impression by scoring his first Premier League goal in the 2-1 victory over Liverpool in July.
Speaking after the Liverpool game, Arteta said of Nelson, “He is a big talent and does a lot of work behind [the scenes]. I trust in him, he is working a lot in every training session and today he had the chance to start and I am really happy for him because I think he deserves it.”
Nelson is under the belief that Arteta will be able to mould him into a better player like the Spaniard did with Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane at Manchester City. But his team selection points out that the Englishman does not rank too high on Arteta’s books. With Willian coming in on a three-year deal, Nelson could be an excess to needs next season and moved out.
Three clubs had bid £20m for Nelson last summer but all bids were turned down. Now, he is valued at around £11.25m and Besiktas could come in with a convincing deal.
