Maitland-Niles is likely to join Roma on a six-month loan.
Roma chief confirmed deal to signing Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
Roma chief Tiago Pinto has confirmed a deal is close to signing Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles. The Gunners attacker is likely to join Roma on a six-month loan.
Pinto was speaking before Thursday night’s defeat to AC Milan.
He said, “I can say we are talking to Arsenal for Niles, there is something happening and he is close.
“There are many other names, but this is not the right moment to talk about them.”
Roma were negotiating to include a €10m buy option in the deal, one Arsenal were not keen on as they favoured an obligation to buy for €15m. In the end, as confirmed by James Olley, the deal is a simple loan and the midfielder will return to Arsenal in the summer.
ESPN’s James Olley was the first to report on Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ joining AS Roma with an option to buy or an obligation.
Olley and Sam Dean of The Telegraph confirmed that the midfielder was close to a straight loan for the rest of the season with no purchase clause.
