The Gunners need cover at the left-back position and Bertrand fits the bill perfectly.
He is Premier League experienced, available for cheap and is eager for a new challenge. After representing Southampton for nearly a decade, Bertrand is on the lookout for a new outfit. His contract is due to end this June and negotiations over a new one has collapsed.
Arsenal are more likely to offer him what he wants at this stage of his career. Goal.com suggests AC Milan and AS Monaco are interested in him as well. Mikel Arteta pushed for Bertrand’s move back in January but was turned down by The Saints.
Ralph Hassenhuttl said, “We are looking at other targets because the offer we have made has not been accepted from his side. When there is no solution for the future, we will have to look at other options in this position.”
Kieran Tierney is clearly the starting option in the position but the Scotland international struggles to stay fit throughout an entire season. His role is so important, it is paramount that somebody is there to replace him when he goes missing.
