The Juventus midfielder was even spotted at the Emirates prior to the pre-season tour which led to plenty of speculation over the summer.
At one point it was even claimed that Khedira was ready to cancel his Juventus contract to accept a new one from the Gunners. That rumour ended pretty quickly when Arsenal signed 6 other players over the course of the last transfer window.
Unai Emery and Co. never made any contact with the Old Lady despite reports of offering him a two-year deal worth £4m per year. Everton and Fenerbahce expressed interest but Khedira chose to stay at Turin and has now started all 6 of Juventus’ Serie A games this season.
Calciomercato wrote, “…he waited by for the call from Arsenal that could have changed his future, but in the end he took the decision to fight to confirm his status as indispensable in Juventus.”
Khedira still has two years left on his deal with the Italian champions. His future seemed uncertain due to him starting only 10 games last term. However, his fortunes have turned under new boss, Maurizio Sarri.
Arsenal have adapted to a new midfield setup this season which keeps rotating around the likes of Dani Ceballos, Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi, Dani Ceballos and Mesut Ozil, Granit Xhaka being the one constant presence.
