According to sources, Arsenal is in the final stages of negotiating a deal to capture St Mirren prodigy Evan Mooney. The Gunners are reportedly negotiating a price for the teenage striker.
Compared to where they are in the Premier League standings, Arsenal has not had a significant winter window, instead concentrating on the return of injured talents like Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Ben White to act as new arrivals.
However, sources suggest that they may be set to make an unexpected acquisition in the form of Mooney, a Scottish teenager who may go south of the border to finalise a deal before the transfer deadline closes at 7 p.m. on Monday.
According to The Sun, Arsenal has made an approach for Mooney, and the Scottish youngster is the focus of negotiations between St Mirren and the Gunners.
And now, it’s reported that Arsenal are ready to pay £265,000 for the teenager ahead of Sunday’s transfer deadline, in what the magazine described as a ‘shock’ move.
Arsenal launch shock transfer swoop for Scottish Premiership starlet
Mooney would be added to the Gunners’ under-21 team and developed from there. This season, Mooney has made 15 appearances for the St Mirren first squad. He wasn’t engaged on Saturday as the Buddies drew 0-0 with Dundee.
They grabbed a point despite playing the final half hour with 10 men after Jake Young’s red card. St Mirren head Robinson wasn’t very satisfied with the decision to fire Young and stated he would be evaluating whether or not to launch an appeal against the decision.
“We had the best chances in the game,” Robinson remarked following the match. It was a really scrappy first half. “I don’t believe Shamal was pushed to make a save by Dundee.
Alongside players like Max Dowman, Mooney, who is only eighteen, will try to win the UEFA Youth Cup with the Gunners. But given that Arsenal has given minutes to players like Dowman, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri, and others, there’s a good possibility Mooney may wear the renowned red jersey in the future. If Mooney can keep playing for the north London club’s first team, then everything is possible.
