This summer, Arsenal will want to transfer Albert Sambi Lokonga, with Sevilla and Burnley competing for his services

According to Simon Jones’ story for the Mail+ Transfer Confidential newsletter, Albert Sambi Lokonga will likely be sold by Arsenal this summer. Jones asserts that Burnley is indeed interested in signing the midfielder, according to reports from other sources. Since they worked together at Anderlecht, manager Vincent Kompany has a high opinion of Lokonga.

However, Burnley is not the only team competing. According to Jones, Sevilla is considering making an offer for Lokonga in the forthcoming window. Lokonga joined Arsenal in 2021 after leaving Anderlecht for roughly £15 million plus add-ons, and he had a rather successful first season.

However, Lokonga left Mikel Arteta’s squad in the second part of 2021–2022, and moved on loan to Crystal Palace after failing to make much of an impact in the first half of the current season. Once more, Lokonga’s tenure on loan has been inconsistent. He started off as a fixture in the Palace team before being relegated to the bench in recent months. Since joining Palace on January 31st, the Belgian international has appeared nine times in total.

To be fair to Lokonga, his chances at the club weren’t helped by the resignation of the manager who brought him in—Patrick Vieira—so it seems doubtful that he will make a permanent switch to Palace. Lokonga will now appear to be seeking to resurrect his career by reuniting with Kompany or joining La Liga. With many well-known players said to be moving, Arsenal is pressing for midfield additions in the upcoming transfer window.

So, despite rumours of future departures for players like Granit Xhaka, it appears like Arteta’s path to minutes is clogged. Arsenal might think about making another loan to the appropriate team, but at this point, it might make more sense to cash out and spend the money on a new signing.
