Shkodran Mustafi’s future at Arsenal is surrounded by a cloud of uncertainty.
Edu Gaspar and Mikel Arteta are working closely to get irrelevant personnel out of the club this January.
So far, they have succeeded with Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac. That leaves Mustafi to be dealt with next. Although Arteta could rely on the German in some games, his dying contract does make it needless to back him over other players.
For instance, Rob Holding has been performing well and has just been awarded a new deal. With David Luiz, Gabriel Magalhaes, Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers in the ranks there would be no need to keep Mustafi as well. Sun Sports reported this week that Mustafi is negotiating with Arsenal to terminate his contract.
However, his father has refuted those claims saying that the defender will only leave once his contract is over.
“I also read the rumors yesterday that Shkodran should terminate his contract. To clarify: There are currently no discussions about a contract termination, ”explains his father and advisor Kujtim Mustafi ( SBE Management AG ) in an interview with Transfermarkt as quoted by the Mail.
“The fact is: Shkodran will leave the club in summer at the latest,” he adds.
