It was another Jose Mourinho outing where Spurs sat in deep and hit Arsenal on the counter. Goals from Heung-Min Son and Toby Alderweirald sealed all three points for them in the North London derby.
The loss was more of Arsenal’s doing as they controlled majority of the possession. A key defensive error from Sead Kolasinac gifted Spurs the equalizer right after Alexandre Lacazette’s stunning strike from distance. Over the course of the game, Arsenal’s steel and vigour died down and Tottenham took advantage.
Alderweirald wrapped up the win with a great hanging header off of a corner. It wasn’t so much a poor display by the Gunners as much as it was errors in key moments. Sol Campbell recognized that to be sole reason behind yesterday’s defeat.
He said as quoted by Sky Sports “It’s lack of concentration in the key moments. It’s a derby game, you’ve got to be concentrated for the 90-odd minutes now. Early doors, you should be switched on.”
Campbell’s words could not have been more true. Other than Nicolas Pepe, most Arsenal players had a decent outing but could not get the result over the line. It was the lapses in focus that ultimately ended up being their worst enemy – a familiar tale for the Arsenal faithful.
