It is well known that Arsenal wants to recruit a well-known striker to help them with their goal-scoring problems from the 2024–2025 campaign. In order to contend for the Premier League championship in 2025–2026, Mikel Arteta is adamant about adding forward reinforcement.

Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP is on the long list of strikers that have been identified ahead of the summer, and the Gunners are making a lot of effort to bring him to North London. Sporting CP has reportedly turned down Arsenal’s initial £59 million [$80 million] offer for Gyokeres, according to sources from the Portuguese newspaper Correiro da Manha.

Manchester United is also in the running for the 26-year-old, and the Portuguese powerhouses want at least £67 million [$90 million], as Sporting CP anticipates a higher price. The Sweden international’s admirer, Andrea Berta, Sporting Director at Arsenal, believes he is the best candidate to join the team.

The early rejection is a blow for Arteta as the team reevaluates their position, but his performance in Portugal over the past two years indicates he can address a significant issue at Arsenal.

Arsenal’s first offer for goal machine has been rejected

The Sun reported that Arsenal had made an initial approach of £59 million for Viktor Gyokeres, but Sporting had turned down the offer. Because of the Swedish striker’s outstanding play since leaving Coventry City, the Portuguese team is requesting a bigger price.

Gyokeres has rapidly made a name for himself as one of Europe’s best forwards, scoring goals on a regular basis and displaying the movement, physicality, and precision finishing that Arsenal’s current forwards have frequently lacked. Sporting is reportedly hesitant to part with their lucky charm until his entire release clause is fulfilled.

Arsenal now faces a decision as a result of this development. Gyokeres and Sesko are still being pursued, so the club must now choose between making a better offer for the Sporting star or concentrating just on Sesko, who might be more affordable.

A significant declaration of intent would be made if either player were secured. To make it happen, though, Arsenal could have to smash their transfer record if they genuinely think Gyokeres is the player who can lead them to the next level. Sesko is currently Arsenal’s backup option, and they are prepared to make another bid for Gyokeres.
