According to the stats laid out by The SUN, Arsenal are doing remarkably well during Unai Emery’s first season at the Emirates.
It took 22 years for the club to change managers and the Spanish boss has picked up his fair share of criticism for the club’s performance in recent times. The Gunners slipped down to a very familiar 6th spot of the Premier League after the 3-1 loss to Manchester City last weekend.
However, one should also take note that it has not even been 12 months since Emery got introduced to the North London outfit. Having made 5 key additions to the club’s squad, the Spaniard has delivered wins over Tottenham Hotspur and has stationed the club amongst the top four for brief periods of the season.
With just 13 games left in the season, the former Sevilla boss has an uphill battle ahead of him with Manchester United hitting their best form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Chelsea still 3 points ahead with a relatively stronger squad.
To put things into perspective, Emery has spent just £68m during his first season in the English top-flight when every other manager of rival outfits has been allowed to spend well over £100m during their debut campaigns.
Maruizio Sarri leads the race with £189m recorded in player transfers, followed up by Jose Mourinho (£166m) at Manchester United.
Pep Guardiola was allotted £156m whereas both Antonio Conte and Jurgen Klopp spent near about £120m. The only who was given a smaller allowance was Mauricio Pochettino but the Argentine boss had won only 13 games unlike Emery’s 14 at this point of his opening season with Spurs.
It will be hailed as a massive success if the Spaniard manages to guide Arsenal to a Champions League
