Former Arsenal star Theo Walcott has warned that Manchester City pose a major threat in the Premier League title race, saying they are a “big problem” for Arsenal as the season reaches a crucial stage.
Arsenal went six points clear at the top after a convincing win over Tottenham last month, but their advantage has since shrunk to just a two-point lead over second-placed City.
City have gained momentum with a series of strong performances and are now firmly in the hunt for the title.
Speaking on The Overlap US, Walcott stressed that City’s experience and strength make them a real danger.
He said Arsenal must be aware that City know how to close gaps at the top end of the table and will “grind teams down” as the season progresses.
Walcott believes City’s quality and history of success give them an edge in pressure situations.
“They’ve been there before,” he explained, highlighting how City have hunted down leaders in previous campaigns and should not be underestimated now.
While Walcott also acknowledged Aston Villa’s outstanding form this season, he singled out City as the main threat to Arsenal’s title hopes, given Pep Guardiola’s tactical acumen and the squad’s depth.
Arsenal’s progress under Mikel Arteta has impressed many, and Walcott believes the Gunners have coped well with pressure so far.
But with just two points separating the top two, he warned that any slip-ups could shift momentum quickly.
City’s recent resurgence has been marked by strong league results and notable wins that have brought them right back into contention.
The defending champions have shown they can still challenge at the highest level, closing the gap and keeping the title race alive.
With the season heading towards its business end, Walcott says the battle for the Premier League is far from over and that Arsenal must maintain consistency if they want to stay ahead of Manchester City.
