Thierry Henry, a club great, has applauded Arsenal for their decision to support Mikel Arteta through his early managerial struggles in an era where managerial tenures are sometimes brief

Henry emphasised the value of patience in creating a successful team while being open about the coaching industry and his own experiences. In a recent interview on the Seaman Says podcast with his former colleague David Seaman, Thierry Henry discussed the value of patience and persistence in football management.

The former Arsenal player praised the team for continuing to support Mikel Arteta, particularly amid the early challenges of his management career.

When Arteta took over for Unai Emery in 2019, the Gunners won the FA Cup. The administration of Arsenal maintained its faith in the Spanish coach despite the team’s struggles in the Premier League and lack of consistency.

After losing three games straight to start the following season, there were calls for Arteta to be fired. However, the team’s fortunes changed as a result of the club’s constant support, and they eventually made a title challenge. Henry’s feelings are representative of a larger problem in current sport, where there seems to be a lack of management patience.

He mentioned the problems Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp had in the beginning, contrasting them with Pep Guardiola’s quick success. We all know that Sir Alex came close to being fired. Recall the ambition that kept him alive? The victory wasn’t automatic for Arsene,” Henry continued. “Klopp didn’t succeed right away; it took him three and a half years to assemble a winning team. Henry wants for a similar level of confidence in his own coaching abilities now that he is in charge of the France Under-21 team.
