The Gunners have long been interested in the Atletico Madrid midfielder and seems to be finally making their move.
Reports claim that Partey could be brought over to the Emirates for a potential transfer fee of £45m. “I called my son after hearing the rumours and he told me that the rumours are true,” Mr Partey said, as per Ghana Web (via Football.london). “He told me they are holding talks between him and Arsenal.
“It all depends on the offer Atletico are demanding. If he goes to Arsenal fine, they have a lot of supporters in Ghana. I will be happy if he decides to move to Arsenal. What they are discussing now is how Atletico will release him.”
Arsenal desperately needed a player of Partey’s quality, who can defend, intercept and still affect the game going forward from midfield. Players like Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka are far too one-dimensional to fulfill all of Mikel Arteta’s tactical responsibilities alone while Matteo Guendouzi simply needs to develop more.
Just like Pep Guardiola deploys either Rodri or Fernandinho as the sole midfield pivot, Partey can take on the same role under Arteta behind a possible combination of Mesut Ozil and Dani Ceballos (if the Spaniard ends up staying).
