Arsenal defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira has said that the comparisons to club legend Patrick Vieira are amazing. Torreira joined Arsenal this summer from Sampdoria on a transfer fee of £26 million. His performances under Unai Emery this season have been brilliant so far. Torreira has provided two assists this season so far.
The Uruguayan’s performances have propelled several people to compare him with Patrick Vieira. Vieira is one of Arsenal’s greatest players ever. He played more than 400 matches for Arsenal and led the team to the league title in the 2003-04 season where the Gunners were unbeaten.
Torreira said about the comparisons, “If the fans are comparing me and my game to Patrick Vieira, that’s amazing. It makes me very proud but I need to grow a bit before I can be as tall as him! But he’s an amazing player, I remember getting up in the mornings in Uruguay to watch him. I feel very happy and am looking to help the team.
I’m trying to improve as a player and do what’s best for the team. Right now we’re doing very well so it’s just about doing that.”
Torreira will hope to give in a fine performance tonight when Arsenal take on Sporting CP.
