Unai Emery has decided to bench two of Arsenal’s biggest stars against Eintracht Frankfurt despite coming under criticism this week.
Pundits believe Emery is walking a thin line between staying on as the Gunners boss and getting sacked.
Arsenal slumped to a 2-2 draw against Watford on Sunday despite taking a significant lead in the first half of the game. They currently have taken on the most shots from opposition numbers in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
Their defensive woes continue to affect their form on the road and the Europa League tie against previous season’s semi-finalists will be no cakewalk. Emery has still decided to keep Mesut Ozil and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, owing to the workload they took on last weekend.
“Sokratis and Mesut (are) rested for that match. We’re going to play another match on Sunday,” Emery said. “My decision is because he (Ozil) played, I’m thinking (of) tomorrow’s first XI and after that deciding who can be the best for tomorrow.
“The first match he played on Sunday he played good with his capacity and skills, his first minutes for us was good. Now he is going to be helping us. Sunday we are going to play another match.”
