Unai Emery is appointed as the new Arsenal manager after Arsene Wenger decided to leave the club after 22 years. He has been charged with the task of returning the club to the European elite while challenging for major honours.
The Spaniard has already completed 5 summer signings, reinforcing the weak areas which needed strengthening ahead of the upcoming season.
Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria, Matteo Guendouzi from Lorient, Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund and Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus.
Former PSG boss has almost finalized his midfield for the upcoming season. Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka have already signed new long term contract extensions and has also urged the club to offer a contract extension to Aaron Ramsey.
Gunners are still being linked with host of players and one of them is their long term target Steven Nzonzi. He is currently with the France team in Russia and could play a part in the finals against Croatia.
The midfielder joined the Spanish side from Stoke City for a fee around the region of £7 million on a four-year contract in 2015. He has been a mainstay at the club since then and won the Europa League against Liverpool on his debut season.
The France International was close to leaving last season but decided to stay. He signed a new contract extension and a £35 million buy-out clause was inserted in his contract. He was a regular for the club last term, making 42 appearances in all competitions.
But the La Liga giants have been frustrated with the 29 year old’s antics and have told him that he is free to leave if his buy-out clause is meet.
But Emery insists that Arsenal have not made a move for Nzonzi and dismissed the speculations.
“I know him but we haven’t made a move for him,” said Arsenal’s head coach as quoted by Express.
