The player has been linked with a move to the Gunners
Unai Emery was appointed as Arsenal’s new manager back in May after Arsene Wenger decided to leave the club after 22 years at the end of the season. He signed a three-year deal worth £15 million.
The Gunners finished sixth in the Premier League last season and will miss the Champions League next season. The Spaniard has been charged with the task of returning the club to the European elite while challenging for major honours.
It has been a busy transfer for the Premier League giants, as the new boss has brought in new five players, reinforcing the particular areas which needed strengthening to compete for major silverware next season.
The club have struggled defensively in the past few seasons and they have bolster the backline by signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund and Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus.
The North London outfit have also been linked with a move for Croatia World Cup star Domagoj Vida in the past few days.
The Croatia International joined Besiktas from Dynamo Kyiv for an unknown fee, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract during the January transfer window. He has been a regular for the since joining them.
The 29 year old made 32 appearances in all competitions for both the clubs during the 2017/2018 campaign.
The defender has been one of the standout players for Croatia in this year’s World Cup and helped his nation to reach their first World Cup final ever. But they were defeated by France in the final match of the tournament.
But the Evening Standard say a deal is now unlikely as Emery has told the club he is satisfied with his current centre-back options, which include Shkodran Mustafi, Rob Holding, Konstantinos Mavropanos and summer arrival Sokratis.
