Unai Emery has clarified that Mikel Arteta kept him waiting following Aston Villa’s loss at the Emirates Stadium, which is why he didn’t shake his hand right away. Villa’s incredible 11-match winning streak came to an end with the loss, which was their first in almost two months. Villa did a good job containing their opponents in the first half, but Gabriel beat Emi Martinez to the ball from a corner early in the second.

Soon after, Martin Zubimendi extended Arsenal’s lead, and an hour later, Leandro Trossard added a third. Gabriel Jesus made it 4-0 shortly after entering the game, but Ollie Watkins’ late goal, which came from close range after some excellent work by Donyell Malen, was a consolation.

Due to his counterpart’s protracted celebrations with his staff, Emery waited to shake Arteta’s hand after the full-time whistle before making his way to the dressing room. You can watch; it’s easy. When asked why he didn’t shake Arteta’s hand, Emery responded, “My routine is always quick.”

Emery explains why he didn’t shake Arteta’s hand after Arsenal win

Following the final whistle, Arteta gave his backroom crew a hug before crossing the touchline in the direction of the Villa dugout, where he appeared to locate Emery. But the Villa manager was nowhere to be seen, and Arteta seemed a little confused.

Emery, who took over as manager of the Emirates for eighteen months after Arsene Wenger left, stated during his post-match news conference that he had been waiting for Arteta before “deciding to go inside.”

“My routine after the match is always quick: shake hands.” I was holding out. [Arteta] was obviously pleased. However, he was with the coaches, and I am eager to see him. In his post-match press conference, Arteta downplayed the event, telling reporters, “It’s not an issue.” It’s not a problem for me because occasionally we are in this kind of situation.

Before tonight’s match, Villa had won 11 straight games, including one against Arsenal in the rematch earlier this month. They are still in third place, and on Thursday night, Manchester City will play Sunderland in an attempt to get up to Arsenal.
