Arsenal boss, Unai Emery claimed that leaving Mesut Ozil back in London had nothing to do with the 1-0 Europa League defeat against BATE Borisov last night.
Plenty of reports have emerged in the past, claiming incidents of disagreements between the manager and Ozil. Lately, those reports have gained more traction due to the German midfielder’s absence from the starting lineup day in and day out.
After the Gunners picked up a shocking defeat in the first leg of the knockout tie, Emery told the press, “Every player is okay to play. Those that were here, we can win with them and we deserved that.”
“Last week we won and we played with the same players. No different performance. We deserved to win but didn’t get the result. They were very organised. We can win with every player and lose with the same players.”
“It’s the first match. We play the next match in London and I think it can be different,” added the Spaniard. I trust in our players and in our stadium with our supporters. I trust in our work and preparations to make a different result. It is not the result we wanted. We deserved more but they worked for this. Next week is going to be different.”
Ozil has made simply two appearances for the club since Boxing Day. He continues to be left out of the club’s games due to either tactical reasons or injuries.
Arsenal’s performance on the pitch last night was calling out for the talents of Ozil who also is the club’s highest paid player at £350,000 per week. The lack of creativity in the midfield certainly affected their chances of finding the equalising goal.
