Arsenal’s search for a Matteo Guendouzi-buyer might be over with Unai Emery raising interest from Villareal.
Mikel Arteta has cut ties with the Frenchman after several bust-ups and is willing to see the back of him this summer.
Arsenal have used him in exchange deals for players, specifically with Atletico Madrid to get Thomas Partey. Upon facing rejection, now they are looking at straight cash deals which might make them a small profit. Villareal are looking like a great outlet after drawing links from Barcelona, PSG and several other European sides.
Unai Emery was the first person to bring Guendouzi to England and introduce him into the Arsenal squad. The midfielder was relatively unknown before that while breaking out with FC Lorient. He went on to make 65 appearances under Emery as he showcased his various skills in the central positions.
Clubs took a liking to the midfielder and there were a few hovering around for him. Arteta gave him a fair opportunity to impress but his demeanour during the 2-1 loss to Brighton ended it all at Arsenal. Guendouzi was verbally mocking the Seagulls players about their salaries and even grabbed Neal Maupay after the game by his throat.
After the incident, he has never stepped onto the pitch for the Gunners and is looking to head out. Emery still sees the player in a positive light and has hopes of turning his attitude around. Arsenal would be glad to negotiate terms if Villareal step in with a serious offer.
