The German winger is now seen as an extra luxury item with no real value in the team. Ozil was signed by Wenger and back then he had become Arsenal’s most expensive signing.
After a bright start to his Arsenal career, he has slowed down and has shown no signs of adapting to the new team being built by Emery.
He has clearly shown his dislike for the manager and has not done so well to get along in a new style of play.
Speaking about his decision not to pick Ozil against Standard Liege, Emery said: ‘When I decided he shouldn’t be in the squad it’s because I think other players deserved it more. ‘He needs to continue working.
Tomorrow we have training with the players who didn’t play, and on Sunday we have another match – and we are going to decide the same.’
His opinion was echoed by Raul who said on Mesut Ozil: “Unai’s policy has always been to play the ones that work hard in training”
